Monday evening, January 25th, at about 9:30pm, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Ames in reference to a disturbance with weapons. While Baldwin City Police Officers and Douglas County Sheriff Deputies responded to the area, a 25 year old female victim provided information that her 31 year old boyfriend had fired a shotgun at her during an argument. The female victim was able to leave the duplex and seek help at a neighbor’s residence.
Officers and Deputies tried to contact the male suspect at the residence and received no response. With the assistance of the Sheriff’s Office K9, the residence was entered and the male suspect was found deceased inside of an apparent gunshot wound. A full investigation is underway to determine all the circumstances surrounding the incident. The name of the deceased is being withheld until positive ID is forensically made and next of kin has been notified.
