Bettis Asphalt delayed work one week due to weather conditions, and are currently working in town to seal the streets to the west of 8th Street and north of High Street, as well as the Golf Course parking lot and driveway. Work is expected to take a few days. See the map below for more details.
At the May 6th, 2025 Council Meeting, City Council approved the annual road resurfacing chip and seal bid to the lowest bidder, which was Bettis Asphalt.
In 2025, work will focus on some of the oldest streets in town, to the west of 8th Street and north of High Street. Streets to be resurfaced with double lift chip and seal include:
Add Alternates 1 and 2 are the Golf Course parking lot and driveway. Council approved these portions of the bid as well.
A timeline for the work to be accomplished is not yet final but will likely take place in August. Typically, this work takes a few days and then the crews will return after a approximately 30 days to sweep up excess rock.
Work was delayed due to rain and storms; crews will be in town through the week of August 18th.
Chip and seal work is set to begin on the streets west of 8th Street and north of High Street on Monday, August 11th. Work is expected to take a few days to complete. Door hangers will be placed in affected neighborhoods prior to any street closings.
Chip and seal work to begin on 26.5 miles of county roads beginning in mid-July, including some roads in and near Baldwin City. Work is expected to take three to four weeks.
Chip and seal road maintenance work moves into Phase IV in 2024, with the north and east sections of town finished and the west side left to do.
