UTVs and micro-utility trucks must be registered and inspected by the Baldwin City Police Department to be legal on city streets.
Baldwin City Police Department is unable to perform VIN inspections currently due to the state-wide system being offline. We will resume when the system is restored, but unfortunately we do not have a timeline for restoration. Fingerprint services and UTV inspections are still available as usual.
The Police Department office will be closed on January 1st, 2026, for New Year's Day.
Baldwin City Council approved new rules for UTVs on August 16, 2022.
UTVs and micro-utility trucks must be registered and inspected by the Baldwin City Police Department before they are legal on city streets.
Requirements for registration include:
- Liability insurance for the specific vehicle you are operating.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Initial registration fee of $50. Annual renewal after initial registration is $25.
Baldwin City Police Department began enforcing UTV registration March 1, 2023.
UTV inspections are offered at the Baldwin City Police Department office, located at 203 1st Street, during regular vehicle inspection hours which are Tuesday and Thursday ONLY, 9-12 and 1-4.
