Much of eastern Kansas and western Missouri is currently under a tornado watch, and currently, a severe storm warning, on Monday, May 19, 2025. Here are some important updates and hyper local resources to stay safe in Baldwin City.

  • Stay tuned to local weather channels and weather.gov for information specific to Baldwin City.
  • Follow Douglas County Emergency Management on social channels, and check their website at dgcoks.gov/em for weather safety tips and resources.
  • Public Works started the water pumps early this morning to get both Baldwin City water towers full ahead of the storms, in an abundance of caution in case of a power outage.
  • The line crew, power plant crew, and public works crews are on full alert and stand by in order to respond as needed to weather-related damage.
  • Baldwin City Police Department will handle staffing as needed to respond appropriately to emergency scenarios.
  • USD 348 has postponed the Junior High promotion ceremony and dance. It will now take place on Wednesday evening. More information is available here: https://target1101.brightarrow.com/msg.aspx?t=ewua615v.D.
  • The community tornado shelter facility is in the performing arts center (PAC) located just north of the junior high school. See the following information from USD348: e want to remind our community that the PAC (400 Eisenhower Street) is also a community tornado shelter. Should severe weather approach us, causing the tornado sirens to sound in Baldwin, patrons may come to the white doors on the north side of the PAC to enter the facility to take shelter from the storm. See the images below. Should the doors not unlock, please call 785-594-5542. Please do not access the glass doors between the gym and the PAC. Again, this access will only be triggered when the tornado sirens sound in Baldwin." #BaldwinBuilt
